Self Defense for Man

Both men and women necessitate self-defense skills in their lifetime. It has been statistically proven that woman are however more prone to attacks by predators than men, and as a result, victims of rape and molestation increase each year. So why is self-defense necessary for a man? Firstly, tempers in men are more predominant to show in public than with woman, and when a man just says or does something wrong; he is probably bound to initiating a potential fight. Secondly, men are not only classified as breadwinners, they are also classified as the caretaker and the protector. For a man, self-defense is expected to come naturally, but with the revolutionary world of technology, spending time in the office has overtaken time spent on learning survival skills. Men may be classified as the protectors but there are many men who will not admit to the fact that they too are scared of being attacked and would not know what to do in such a situation.

Self-defense for a man not only involves personal confrontations in a bar or at a social gathering, it also involves the ability of knowing how to perform optimally when under attack by a robber or predator. If your attacker has an object such as a knife or gun, self-defense techniques can teach you how to disarm your attacker quickly and efficiently. Self-defense for a man also involves knowing how to handle situations when placed at gunpoint without you getting hurt and more importantly, how to tell where your attacker is going to strike you before he has even made his move. All these skills, as taught in self-defense could possibly save your life and they are crucial for any man who has loved ones waiting for his return at home. The skills for self-defense can be learnt by anyone, from the young and inexperienced to the knowledgeable and skilled.

Many men may underestimate the use of some weapons used for self-defense. A man who is under attack does not have the advantage that a woman does when it comes to objects that can be used (for example, high-heeled shoes). Many people have stereotyped pepper spray with woman but it is useful for the man too. Self-defense for a man does not necessarily mean throwing kicks and punches at your attacker, it simply entails getting your attacker out of your danger zone and moving to a place of safety, and believe it or not, if pepper spray is able to work when a woman uses it, it will too work when a man uses it. Carried on your key ring, this form of self-defense is easily accessible and could possibly save your life. As with any woman, for a man, self-defense focuses on knowing and being aware of your attacker. Men are too prayed on when they walk alone in alleys and streets, staying alert and around people all the time is therefore a crucial entity for any gender. Self-defense classes can be attended at a martial arts school or one can purchase DVD’s and videos that teach one the skills and techniques you need to know in the comfort of your own home.
