Sam R., Osprey FL

"I am able to now understand how my environment can help me protect myself in a dangerous situation."

Martial arts weapons

There are Martial arts weapons that have evolved over time and have become well known in the East or the West as artefacts associated with Martial art like Nunchaku or the Ninja Warrior Sword.

In our day to day life it is not often that we will be carrying Martial arts weapons because it is not practical. The Family Safety and Self-Defense Institute know that the best equivalent you can ever have to Martial arts weapons will be you being wide awake and prepared if attacked.

In your own kitchen or anywhere else you will have within easy reach an equivalent to Martial arts weapons types at your reach if you need it. For example a broom, can be a very effective Martial arts type weapon if you know what to do with it.

Martial arts weapons are accessories that go beyond ones own ability, and there is every reason to prove the fact that even if one is equipped with Martial arts weapons during an encounter with an aggressor, if you are not wide awake and in-tune with your instincts for survival you may not use those martial arts weapons effectively.

The “key” to the Family Safety and Self-Defense Institute is not through the use of Martial arts weaponry. “The key is making it “inconvenient” for somebody to attack, or continue to attack”. And even though this is a self-defense program the use of weaponry is not formal like it is with Martial arts weapons.

The Institute has designed a Self-Defense program where you will not need fancy steps or Martial arts weapons to have confidence that you can stand up to an attacker. What you will need though is to draw out of yourself your instincts. By being in touch with your instincts you can know for sure that with or without martial arts weapons you will be in a position to defend yourself.

If we need to use a weapon, our instincts can guide us to draw on what we need from our midst. Today’s way of life makes it very impractical to carry something like a Martial arts weapon like sword around with us, and there is no need to feel unsafe because of this.

One can easily fall into the trap of “thinking” that without something like a Martial arts weapon we will be at a loss during an attack. And it may not seem apparent, but in any given situation we do have everything we need to meet our challenges in the moment. What we don’t always have though, is access to this ability where we can draw on what we need. The likelihood of being able to draw on a Martial arts type weapon during an attack is slim, but the chances of drawing on our instincts are excellent.

The Family Safety and Self-Defense Institute’s program is practical and suits any type of life style. It is not the Martial arts weapons that make the practitioner fearless in battle. Just like the Institutes Self-Defense course it is fundamental to learn how to work with instincts. This takes some training to learn but once we have begun with that type of training we can develop that quality every day in the little things we deal with on an ongoing basis. When Martial arts weaponry was used very extensively in its day, life was not as we know it now.
