Child abduction

Child abduction is the kidnapping of a child or baby by an older person for very different reasons. The reason include one spouse removing the child from the other parent’s care, especially in the vent of divorce proceedings, children being kidnapped to be sold as slaves in foreign countries or kidnapping a child for criminal or other purposes.

Child abduction is done by any one and it is often that children are abducted by people that are familiar to them. The more feared phenomenon however, is abduction by a stranger however, this does not happen very often.

In some cases, women kidnap children, especially babies or other very young children, to raise them as their own. These women are often women who either lost a child or are women who are not able to bare their own children. For them, child abduction is a way to satisfy this psychological need to have children, without the drawn out process and administrative hassle of adoption. It is thus a quick and easy solution to get a child.

The most frequent kind of child abduction is where the parents are separated and busy with divorce proceedings. By doing this, the kidnapping parent wishes to gain an advantage in the child custody proceedings, or because of fear to loose the child forever.

Child abduction and the legislation regarding it, differs from state to state. In most circumstances, kidnapping a child, even if it is your own, is a criminal offence. In the United Kingdom, removal of a child for twenty eight days without the permission of the legal parent is treated as a criminal offence. In the United States, interstate child abduction is treated as a criminal offence, as it is seen as child abuse.

In countries around the world, much is done to inform people about child abduction. The proverb that says “prevention is better than cure”, is absolutely true. Police services play an integral part in informing their communities to make them aware of what can be done to prevent such a horrifying experience.

Be alert and be ready, because anyone can be a victim, even if you are only a child. Children should be informed about child abduction, what it is and how it can be prevented, as well as what to do if it happens. The Family Safety and Self-Defense Institute educate men, women and children self-defense in a fun and simple way. It creates awareness and a readiness not be caught of guard. Awareness takes the surprising element out of an attack which will mean that just by being calm and collected, you have a better change of evaluating the circumstance and not make foolish decisions that can cost you your life.

Child abduction is unfortunately a fact and not a myth. Do not allow you or your child be caught of guard.
